ADAM GROUP – The History
The family firm of ADAMJEE LUKMANJEE & SONS, was established in 1883. As the family grew and diversified the ADAM GROUP OF COMPANIES was founded by our Chairman Dr. S A Gulamhusein
The initial business of the Adam Group was supplying Tea chests in component form to tea estates in Sri Lanka. There were 10 employees at the start and this business was conducted under Adamtex established in 1967
In 1972 Adamexpo was established at No.57, Chatham Street, Colombo 01 with a staff strength of 20. Initial business was export of tea, coconut products and spices and all overseas communication was done via cable and telegram.
In 1993 Giorgio Morandi (Pvt) Ltd was incorporated with an American collaborator to manufacture high quality garments for export. This factory 55,000 sq. ft. in extent is situated in Hangurankate in the Central province of Sri Lanka and consists of 550 employees.
In 1986 the Adam Group bought controlling interest of one of the oldest public quoted trading companies in Sri Lanka, Ceylon & Foreign Trades Plc. (CFT) which was established in 1949 and became a publicly quoted company in 1978. Located on a 2 acre warehousing complex in the heart of Colombo’s commercial hub. CFT has been trading for over 60 years and exports to customers in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, South and Central America, Russia and the United States.
In 2000 the Adam Group bought Adamjee Extractions Pvt Ltd. A state of the art solvent extraction plant (a one of its kind in Sri Lanka) for the production of various vegetable oils.
In 2002 Network Communications Pvt Ltd was incorporated for the purposes of VOIP termination of national inbound voice services and origination of Sri lankan voice services, after the group acquired 1 of 32 licenses issued to operate an external gateway for international telecommunication.
In 1973 Adametals was incorporated in our own premises at 279 Vauxhall street with 05 wire nail machines and 01 Barbed wire manufacturing machine. Raw material was imported from South Africa.
In 1978 Adam Apparels was started at 26/2 Waidya road, Dehiwala with 35 sewing machines and 45 employees to manufacture garments for export.
In 1980 Colombo hardware was incorporated (Presently called Adammetal sales Center) to carry out sales of imported hardware items to the wholesale & retail market.

Adam Expo — our main trading arm offers you, years of experience in the export of tea and coconut products. What’s more, we also get involved in the import and distribution of foodstuff and paper.
